10 Day Cleanse Thoughts and Results…

So we finished up with the AdvoCare 10 Day Cleanse last Friday and we wanted to share our results and also some thoughts about it.

First the results! I lost 4lbs total and Adam lost 5lbs total! And we both lost several inches overall!  We really weren’t expecting to lose much, but were pleased to find out that we both did lose some!!  We’re excited to continue exercising more and eating clean as often as possible, but still enjoying foods we both like.

If you’re planning on doing the 10 Day Cleanse alone or as part of the 24 Day Challenge, here are a few thoughts we have to make the process a little easier!

First off, this is not a laxative based cleanse, so it’s very mild.  It’s basically just ridding your body of toxins.  By cutting out sugar, alcohol, processed foods, etc. and adding in probiotics, 10g of Fiber and eating healthy food, the cleanse is helping your body reset itself.  It’s a perfect way to kick-start a healthy lifestyle.  Eating clean and working out during the cleanse are the key components, in addition to the supplements, to achieve results.

Fiber Drink – Choose the Unflavored Fiber Drink and mix it with Spark every morning.  I had the Peaches n’ Cream Fiber Drink and Adam had the Unflavored and mixed it with Spark.  We switched one day, and I couldn’t believe how much easier it was to drink the Unflavored version.  The Peaches n’ Cream isn’t terrible, but is SO chalky and I quickly got tired of it.  If you choose the Unflavored Fiber drink, you can mix it with a different flavor of Spark everyday if you want so it’s not so boring and gross.  Also, mix it quickly with a spoon and CHUG IT!  Don’t let it sit around or it gets goopy and thick.  Gross.  If you mix it and immediately drink it, it’s fine.

Drinking Water – This got easier every single day.  At first we both felt like we were water balloons ready to pop. HA!  But our bodies eventually got used to the extra water intake, and we found that it just became habit to drink water regularly.  I drank around 72oz a day, while Adam drank 108oz.  AdvoCare recommends dividing your body weight in half and using that as a guide for how many ounces of water you drink for the challenge.

CorePlex (vitamins) & OmegaPlex (Fish Oil) – We highly recommend these products as an addition to the 10 Day Cleanse and 24 Day Challenge.  We took them with dinner every night and had no problems at all.  I’ve seen others mention that the vitamins made them sick (I’ve experienced this in the past) when taking them on an empty stomach, so make sure you eat and then take them.  Adam took his about halfway through dinner, I took mine after.

We are continuing to use Spark, CorePlex, and OmegaPlex daily.  We’ve also ordered some additional ProBiotic RESTORE™ ULTRA to add to our daily regimen just for the added health benefits that probiotics offer.

If you have any questions about the 10 Day Cleanse, 24 Day Challenge, or any of these products ask away!

Turkey Meatloaf Recipe

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I wanted to share some healthy recipes that we use all the time. I posted this recipe on my other blog several years ago, and this specific post continues to get visits, so I thought I’d share it here as well. This recipe is perfect because it makes enough to give us leftovers for the next day for lunch and possibly dinner depending on how hungry we are.

Ever since my Mom and I found Bill Phillips’ Body for Life Program back when I was in high school (that’s over 15 years ago people) :), we’ve loved his turkey meatloaf recipe. It’s the easiest, healthiest, yummiest meatloaf I’ve ever had. (And even my grandma, who always used ground beef for her meatloaf, loved this stuff. She even requested that I make it for her after she had her stroke and couldn’t cook anymore. I took some up to her at the nursing home a few times, since according to her, their food was awful.) 🙂 So here is Bill’s recipe straight from the Eating for Life cookbook. Whenever I’ve changed anything, I’ll note those changes below!

Home-Style Turkey Meatloaf

This photo is from the Eating for Life cookbook. You can also view the recipe at the Transformation website.

1 1/2 lbs lean ground turkey (I just used a pack of extra lean Jennie O ground turkey breast; it’s not quite 1 1/2 lbs but it’s close enough)
1 onion, chopped (I hate chopping onions, so I buy a frozen bag of pre-chopped ones! It’s so much easier!! I do not use the entire bag, I just dump in around what a whole onion would yield.)
4 egg whites (I use 2 whole eggs instead)
1 cup salsa (I use around 1 1/2 cups because we like the salsa. My favorite new salsa is Publix Greenwise Organic Medium Salsa. It’s DELICIOUS!!)
3/4 cup old fashioned oats
1 pkg Knorr Vegetable Soup mix
1/4 tsp black pepper (I don’t measure this, I just dump.) 🙂
1/2 cup ketchup (I don’t measure this either. I just make a fat squiggly line on top!)
Garlic powder, to taste (I like to add a little of this, even though the original recipe doesn’t call for it.)

1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, onion, egg whites, salsa, oats, soup mix and black pepper. (Add in you garlic powder in this step too. Also I mix up everything but the turkey first. Then I add the turkey in. It helps me mix it up easier.)

3. Press mixture into a 9″ x 5″ loaf pan (I like to line my glass dish with foil, and then spray the foil with some olive oil cooking spray. It makes cleaning the dish a lot easier!) and spread ketchup over top. (I squirt mine in a squiggle line, because I think it’s fun.) 🙂 Bake in preheated oven until meatloaf is no longer pink in the center and juice is clear, about 60 minutes. (I like to turn the oven up to 370° when it has about 15 minutes left, because I like mine to get a little brown and crispy on top.)

4. Remove meatloaf from oven and let sit for 5 minutes before slicing. (I’m too impatient for this, so I usually yank it out and we eat! haha) You can see in the picture below that it doesn’t stick hardly at all with the foil!

And here is the finished product!

–Tasteful Tip from the cookbook–
Meatloaf makes a great “planned-over.” Consider making an extra loaf and freezing it. Cool it completely, then cover tightly with plastic wrap. Over-wrap it with aluminum foil, and store it in the freezer for up to two months

10 Day Cleanse Prep…

We’ve known about AdvoCare products for awhile now.  But until recently hadn’t really committed to using the products.  We’ve used plenty of other supplements, vitamins, energy drinks, etc. in the past and had great results  But we finally made the decision for me to become an AdvoCare distributor (cost is $79, plus taxes and s/h, total was $93.13 for me) to take advantage of the 20% discount.  (Plus you get 3 boxes of Spark, a $68 retail value, with your distributor kit.)  Once you sign up, you can automatically place your first order at a 20% discount.  It was a no-brainer for us.

Back to the 10 Day Cleanse… We recently tried a Whole 30 Challenge and had some amazing results.  (We did not make it the entire 30 days fully compliant, but we are still eliminating most non-compliant items from our current diet.)  We lost a little weight and inches, but overall felt so much better.  It was definitely one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.  After that I started seeing posts about amazing results with the AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge and looked into it further.  You can view the full 24 Day Challenge program here if you’d like to see what it entails.

To keep our initial costs down, we have decided to just commit to the 10 Day Cleanse portion of the 24 Day Challenge.  We’ll be using the Herbal Cleanse System (includes a Fiber Drink), along with Spark, OmegaPlex (Omega-3 Fatty Acid Dietary Supplement), and CorePlex (vitamins).  We are using the Spark that came with the distributor kit, so we only had to purchase the other items.  Our order total came to $117.33 with shipping.  So it’s costing us each about $59 each to do this 10 Day Cleanse.  Plus we’ll have extra OmegaPlex and CorePlex leftover after we are done.

To prep for the 10 Day Cleanse, I used sandwich and snack size baggies to divide out everything for each day of the cleanse to make it easier to keep up with.  I also created a simple printout for each day so we’d know when to take what.

If you’d like to use the daily guides I created, download it here – 10 day cleanse printout.

We started last week on March 2, and recorded our weight and measurements that morning.  Then we’ll record them again on the morning of Day 11.  I’m not expecting a lot of weight or inches lost.  We are just looking for a jump start to getting back into a healthy routine!  We’ll be combining the cleanse with healthy eating as well.  I’ll  be sharing some of our meal plans later.  We are planning to keep our meals very basic so they won’t be anything exciting or special, but they’ll get the job done without having us spend hours in the kitchen everyday.  You can view the 24 Day Challenge guide here to read more about what food is recommended during the Cleanse phase.

Wish us luck! 🙂  I’ll be sharing our results as soon as we finish up!

AdvoCare Distributor Kit…What do you get?

When I first began researching the opportunity side of AdvoCare, I began by searching for what came in the kit to get you started.  Mostly, all the photos I found were stock photos of the kit you receive when you sign up to become a distributor.  So I figured, why not share photos of exactly what came in mine and offer my own thoughts about it.

First off, I don’t really consider myself a distributor just yet.  Basically I’m just a wholesale customer, getting my products at a 20% discount.  I paid $79 (plus $7.45 s/h & $6.68 tax, bringing the total paid to $93.13), for a membership into the AdvoCare “Club”.  This means I currently get 20% off any products I purchase.  Plus, if people choose to purchase products from me, I can make a 20% profit (and more!!) on whatever they choose to buy. It’s kind of like becoming a member at Sam’s Club or Costco.  You pay a yearly membership fee to buy products at a discount.  And yes, there is a yearly fee for AdvoCare as well.  If you choose to continue to want to purchase your AdvoCare products at a 20% discount, there is a $50 annual renewal fee.  You can choose to stay or go 1 year from the date you signed up.  So if you signed up today, next year on that day, you’ll need to pay $50 to stay.  (Once you renew, you do get 2 free boxes of Spark, 1 box with each of your next to orders.  So that’s a great perk to renewing.)  Make sense?

Ok, now onto the kit. The photos I found, when searching for the kit, showed different things, because the kit has been updated and changed over the years.  This is what comes in the current kit:  3 boxes of Spark (1 Green Apple, 1 Fruit Punch, and 1 Strawberry Mango, $68.85 retail value), plus a Getting Started Guide.  That’s it.  Pretty simple huh?  They used to send out a DVD and Impact Magazine with the kit, but do not any longer.  Those items are available to purchase on your AdvoCare website though.  This kit is a great way to sample several different flavors of Spark, then have the ability to order more at a discounted price.

Better still, the more products you buy, the higher your discount level is. And it’s cumulative, meaning once you hit a discount level, you never go lower than that. Your purchases (and sales if you choose to), continue to add up, earning you a higher discount level as you continue to use (and/or sell) products you love.  See the chart below for details.

This makes signing up as a distributor/wholesale customer an even better idea.  If you’re already purchasing AdvoCare products at full price, you’ll get to the higher discount levels in no time.  So why not be rewarded for your purchases?? You can choose to cancel your distributorship at anytime, no questions asked.  One last thing.  You get your very own website to purchase your own products from, and for others to purchase from you for FREE.  A lot of other direct sales companies charge monthly for websites.  Some cost as much as $24.95/month!!  Your AdvoCare site is totally FREE! YAY!

We’ll be starting a 10 Day Cleanse soon to jump start our fitness goals, and I can’t wait to share about our prep and results from it!
